Ingredients:
- 1 pound boneless chuck roast, trimmed and cut into 1/2 inch pieces
 - 1/2 cup thinly sliced โโcarrots
 - 1/2 cup thinly sliced โโcelery
 - 2/3 cup chopped onion
 - 1 package of pre-sliced โโmushrooms 8 ounces
 - 2 tablespoons beef base (itโs different from beef broth itโs a base that makes beef broth)
 - 8-10 cups of water
 - 1 large bay leaf
 
Instructions:
- Brown beef in nonstick skillet until browned, stirring frequently.
 - Remove the beef from the skillet and place it in the slow cooker.
 - Add the carrot, celery, onion and mushrooms, beef base, water, garlic and bay leaf.
 - Cook over high heat for one hour, add pearl barley then reduce heat to low and cook until vegetables and beef are tender.
 - Stir in salt and pepper.
 - Discard the bay leaf.
